Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 300 g bow tie pasta
- 200 g cheddar cheese
- 200 g ham
- 600 ml whole milk
- 40 g butter
- 30 g all-purpose flour
- 40 g breadcrumb
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 2500 ml water
Instructions
- 1
Heat the oven to 400°F/200°C and set out a 2½-liter baking dish. Grate the cheddar and cut the ham into small cubes.
- 2
Bring the water to a boil in a large pot and add the salt. Cook the bow tie pasta for 2 minutes less than the package directions, then drain.
- 3
Meanwhile, melt 30 g of the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth, then bring to a gentle simmer. Cook, stirring, for 4–5 minutes, until the sauce lightly coats the back of a spoon. Remove from the heat and stir in the cheddar and black pepper until smooth.
- 4
Fold the drained pasta and ham into the cheese sauce, then spoon everything into the baking dish.
- 5
Melt the remaining 10 g of butter in a small microwave-safe bowl and mix in the breadcrumbs. Scatter evenly over the pasta. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the sauce bubbles around the edges and the topping is golden. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
